Let's compare a good Google My Business listing with one that would benefit from a little TLC. Once your business is on Google Maps, optimizing its appearance and visibility is pretty straightforward: Provide as much accurate information as possible. Improving Appearance (and Visibility) on Google Maps (and in ) After claiming your business, you can begin to improve your appearance and visibility in search results and Google Maps. So, if you want to control how your business appears on Google Maps, you actually need to go and sign up for Google My Business. With Google My Business you can do everything from adding brand new businesses to Google Maps, to fixing incorrect business information like hours of operation, address changes, and more. These listings appear on Google Maps as well as directly in search results. Simply put, Google My Business is Google's free platform for managing your local business listing. Google relies on data aggregators, like Infogroup, as well as everyday Google users to keep their local business listings up to date, but you can overrule these by using Google My Business. It just takes a little bit of time and familiarity with Google My Business. While how it works can seem a bit complicated, managing your business on Google Maps is as simple as creating a Facebook profile or Twitter account (I promise, it's no more difficult than that). But how does that work, and isn't it complicated? Very simple : Select the language and the country you are in ( or use United States for generic results ) and hit the button "Fetch Google Business Profile Categories", wait few seconds and voilaIf you run a local business, one of the best things you can do is make sure you're appearing on Google Maps. Also there is a new row with information about the new categories from the last 30 days. UPDATE: Now the columns are two more - when we first found the category and when was the last time we saw it. These analyzes are based on more than 8 million google listings! Hint 2: When you click on related categories you can see the full analyze of the category: Related categories, Google trend for the category, GBP attributes associated with the category and many more. Hint: You can use / to compare results in English-USA and results in English-UK. Google is adding/removing categories every month so you should keep a close look for new categories that describe you business better.It is also a good practice to add/remove additional categories and monitor how you ranking and leads are changing.The maximum number of categories you can have for you GBP listing is 10.The best practice is to choose the most relevant category as your primary and to add 2-3 more additional categories that also describe your business but no more than 5-6 categories in total.The list is not more than three days old! This categories are the same as the one you see in Google Maps. The default categories in GBP are in English with country USA. You can generate the list in different combination between language and country.
